We Are the World, Remixed & Stuff
I know that I’m hella late on posting this but still, there are some of you who haven’t seen it. There’s so much that I want to say and so little blog space. Instead, I’ll say follow me on Twitter so that you can see up to the minute commentary on f*ckery like this.
Honestly, I don’t think that it’s as bad as everyone made it out to be. Nothing will ever touch the first one but in most cases, when is a sequel better than what precedes it?
I will say that I am absolutely TIRED of Jamie Foxx resurrecting Ray Charles…on every album, every interview and now, every song! Sh*t is getting pathetic. Someone needs to tell him that the filming wrapped up ions ago. He missed that memo.
Post your thoughts on the video!

February 13th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
T-Pain got a solo but NOT Anthony Hamilton? How do you have real sangers in the studio and Lil Wayne gets a solo? Yeah … It's not that bad but it's not that good either.
February 13th, 2010 at 9:19 am
Jia I don’t know why they are always remaking something that don’t hold a candle to the orginal movies tv series and music. Its not bad but its not great either
February 13th, 2010 at 2:36 pm
the version they showed during the Olympics was HORRIBLE! this one isn't as bad……still kinda sucks tho…..& why was that stranger bitch from the PCD all over this shit? T-Wayne?……no comment. and am i the only one so fucking sick of wyclef!?
February 13th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
I totally agree!
February 13th, 2010 at 3:11 pm
so many things are wrong with this song. I tried to hold my comments until the end of the video or until lil wayne and t-pain popped with that damn auto tune. I'm sorry but wtf was that you are right Miss Jia nothing is touching the original
February 13th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
that room was filled with incredible singers and they chose to put these rappers and dlist singers on there.. like come on justin bieber, miley cyrus, pussy cat girl and fergie when you have anthony hamilton and gladys night right there..come on…and i miss enrique and celine they need to come out with some new stuff…
February 13th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
iCant co-sign this mess.
I'm mad they had the rappers in the singers section.
I've only seen this once but, Tyrese, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson, Anthony Hamilton, Robin Thicke, Musiq Soulchild etc. were ALL in that choir and didn't get a verse nor line but Lil Wayne, T-Pain & Akon did?
I'm sorry but they are NOT singers! [We all know Akon be singin in 1 key on every damn song w/ the help of autotune]
They dedicated a whole section towards the end where they could've gotten in where they fit in. #Shoutout to Busta, Snoop Dogg, LL and nem for knowin their place!
And I'm not accepting the 'it's for a good cause' excuse, because with that in mind they shoulda MADE SURE this was on point.
I just can't with this.
-Disappointed
February 13th, 2010 at 4:18 pm
I'm still mad that they hyped up Janet singing her brother's part and she was only in it for five seconds and you couldn't hear her or they sound too much alike.
February 13th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
The song didn't get bad until the rapping part. What was the point of having Lil Wayne and T-pain do auto-tune?
February 13th, 2010 at 4:45 pm
I AGREE VIVI
February 13th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
I agree with everyone else. When I saw Musiq Soulchild was there and didn't get a part, but Weezy did? ….. #pause
Okay, so say something nice:
Celine moved my spirit. Damn, Jia, I didn't know she went that hard in this song! LOL
I heart Mary Mary, those two sisters were gettin it.
JHud had me catching the holy ghost right along with her. (Surprised Mary J Blige didn't catch some of that spirit lol.)
I'm a huge Toni Braxton fan and I love her alto voice (especially since I'm an alto!) But Toni, babe, Jia's right. You were giving straight lesbian vibes, hun. What happened?
February 13th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
Back to the bad:
I'm not trying to hate or anything, SERIOUSLY, but am I the only that noticed that there were a lot of white singers that got lead parts, and very few blacks? Until the rap section, then you got LL and a whole slew of niggas lookin like an entourage crashing the stage. Really?
And Weezy? (Mr. I wanna fuck every girl in the world, including pre-pubescents.)
And Akon? (Mr. I get down with 15-year old girls on stage, and throw shit at fans?)
Wyclef…Okay I get it. The song's for Haiti. He's Haitian. The ambassador. Fine. But them wild jungle calls were scaring the shit outta me.
Well, my rant's gone on too long now and this ain't even my blog, so…yeah. lol
February 13th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
The song was ok. I really would've appreciated them not including Lil Wayne, Akon, T-Pain, and the group rap. This is a song originally made by SINGERS, no rap needed. The singing was good but they should've used more of the great singers (i.e. Anthony Hamilton, Tyrese, etc.) & not the rappers. Like I said on another blog, I know what he looks like but I still don't know who this Justin Bieber kid is…
February 13th, 2010 at 5:46 pm
~3:15 is that wyclef having a fuckn seizure?
February 13th, 2010 at 5:47 pm
i agree that the rapping seemed out of place.
February 13th, 2010 at 5:49 pm
*rappers
February 13th, 2010 at 5:49 pm
nicole sherzinger is actually an amazing singer but other than that, i agree
February 13th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
Jia, I agree. I don't think it was as bad as people portrayed it to be. I loved the diversity that they had and how everyone was willing to put aside their Ego's and busy lives for the cause of Haiti. I have to say my favorite parts was Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dione, Pink & The Maroon 5 Guy – All The Singers did very well though. However, some of it was suspect. lol.
(1) Whose idea was it to copy & paste Janet into the video!?
(2) I Love Wyclef! but his yodeling at the end? – I can't.
(3) I was fine; with the rapping (you know, give everybody a chance) but I thought auto tone was dead – They could've did without Wayne – just saying. T-pain was alright.
- Tis is all.
February 13th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
my question is WHY out of every single person there, did kanye get the most solo time of anyone? lmao guess he has to be the diva, even on a haiti relief song…
February 13th, 2010 at 6:11 pm
True, I get that they were trying to update it to modern times by including the rap, since hip-hop is much bigger now than it was 25 years ago.
BUT STILL!! LOL
February 13th, 2010 at 7:53 pm
Where the fuck was beyonce at??? She NEEDED to be there. Why did they have that lil white boy open that shit up? I dont know who told him he could sing cause he CAN NOT!!! I didnt even see trey or keri. Why kesha cole wasnt there(did she have that baby yet jia?) Or monica? Celine ws the only one who i really felt had the right to have a solo, her and j. hudson. Pink actually did good for her 8 second cameo. Wtf happen to janet? Why they give her such a small part(then again she might have asked for one)… it was cool for what it was, but it wasnt all that…
February 13th, 2010 at 8:16 pm
Lol! I thought the same thing about Wyclef….I just could not take all his wailing/jungle calls. Too much, Wyclef, too much.
February 13th, 2010 at 8:19 pm
No, Nicole is juat like the rest….Amazing 2 look at….That is all!
*drops mic*
February 13th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
I'm tired of his ass too…I hated everything about this. Lil Wayne the Rap Wycelf presence period… Why not make a NEW song
February 13th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
I usually "DESPISE" re-touched music,
especially music (such as this 1) that doesn't need 2 be re-touched, but this was actually "Well Done" (in my opinion)….Definately, a good look:)!
My Likes ~
Mary Mary ~ Heavent Sent:)
J. Hud (of course) ~ As usual, my girl ripped the mic, limb from limb….Voice of an Angel.
Celine Dion ~ Her solo was so beautiful, she sounded as if she was from the original 1.
Pink (of course) ~ No need 2 really get into that, that's my baby/homie (in my head:)!
The guy from Maroon 5 ~ Voice of an Angel!
Michael & Janet ~ When Michael's face popped up, my heart both smiled & cried!
Jamie ~ Yes baby, I am soooo loving the Ray impression, sounds just like the original:)!
Wyclef ~ Yes baby, I (like Haiti) felt your pain & heard your cries….Be Strong Brotha!
February 13th, 2010 at 9:36 pm
My Dislikes –
Miley – I'm sorry, but 2 me, Miley Cyrus oozes "Publicity Stunt," like Lindsay &'nem.
Nicole Scherz…..uh….HOWEVER THE HELL YOU SPELL HER NAME!!!!
I love T-Pain, he's my baby, but this was the '1' time he should've put aside the Auto-tune.
Wayne – He actually sounded aight, but 2 me, Wayne oozes a "4 Self" personality, that totally clashes with this particular cause.
Akon –
Kanye – …….*clears throat, raises left eyebrow*…….Moving on!
And I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of'em right now.
Anyway, that's "MY" opinion of the "We Are The World" re-make.
Rest In Paradise ~ 2 all of the deceased victims of the Earthquake, & 2 MJJ!
February 13th, 2010 at 9:46 pm
LMFAO @ wild jungle calls….. it scared me too though
February 13th, 2010 at 5:50 pm
okay and the RAPPING, too.. i hadn't gotten to that part yet
February 13th, 2010 at 11:36 pm
The Original was better, of course. T Pain, Wayne, Justin Beiber, Nicole from PCD, Miley Cyrus, shoulda told their asses to stay home. Where the fuck was Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay Z, Taylor Swift? As many fans as they generate, theyre asses shoulda been there, that means more money for Haiti, lost the few cool points they had left with me over that. Jamie, hedoes overdo the Ray Charles thing at time but you gotta rememer that Ray was in the original We are the World, and killed his solo, so hearing his voice, I thought they added it in like they did Michael. I found it sweet to somewhat include Ray in the remake. The vocals were wayyyy better in the original but the remake was okay, it had its moments. Damn sure coulda did without the autotunes.
February 13th, 2010 at 11:38 pm
well i've watched all her acapella stuff and IMO she's a great singer.. *shrug*
February 13th, 2010 at 11:44 pm
i'm sorry, did i spot randy jackson and vince vaughn in that choir? LMFAO
February 14th, 2010 at 12:44 am
a lot of people, like gaga, were asked to be in it and declined because they were too busy and made huge contributions out of their own pockets instead. i'm guessing beyonce was probably the same thing.. bc you KNOW they woulda had her if they could
February 14th, 2010 at 12:56 am
Im MAD YOU SAID they copied and pasted Janet into the video LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OMG I am DEAD!!! Don't bother trying to save a bitch! IM dead!!!!!
February 14th, 2010 at 12:58 am
When I first heard they were going to remake this one I cringed…especially when I saw pictures of Snoop, Lil Wayne, and others. I thought it was a bad idea at first but after I saw the video I changed my mind. They did a good job and the rap segment worked.
Hip Hop is a big part of American culture, so it makes sense that they would incorporate it in this remake. 25 years ago when the original was made, nobody was taking rap music seriously, but times are different now. I don't want them to use rap in EVERY remake, but this time, it was okay.
February 14th, 2010 at 12:58 am
I feel they disrespected the original version…with them rapping on it and using auto-tune and shit. and wycelf i dont know what he was doing, just sounded awful
February 14th, 2010 at 1:41 am
It was alright. They just disrespected the SHIT outta MJ AND Haiti, had Wyclef stir up his brains to make that ridiculous ass sound come out & let a pussycat doll, a Bieber, a Cyrus, Weezy & T-Pain LEAD the fuckery. Them mufuckas basically put a "We Love Bush" bumper sticker on Obama's bentley…but other than that, it was cool. *side eye*…
February 14th, 2010 at 3:48 am
lol@ the poster who asked if Wyclef was having a seizure. Did Wyclef say Kumbaya? What the heck was he screaming?!
February 14th, 2010 at 4:03 am
Wow Miss Jia I guess you are over Jamie tell us how you really feel lol I on the other hand LOVE me some Jamie and found it FUNNY as HAIL! I do agree that the song isnt as bad as most are making it seem. Folks need to calm down and fall back wasnt that serious I guess I didnt have high expectations regarding this remake *kanye shrug*
February 14th, 2010 at 6:22 am
its koo…..wyclef sound HELLA BAD…with all that scream'n & shit
February 14th, 2010 at 4:35 am
is that jordin sparks at 6:47?
February 14th, 2010 at 8:38 am
I just really don’t like it, it had it’s parts but it’s just….no.
February 14th, 2010 at 3:24 pm
Reposting my general comments from other blogs (may or may not apply to some):
I FINALLY watched this after reading comments because I had some doubts before but as usual people would overreact. How many times did any of you play the original song in the past 5 years? Most of you probably forgot about it until this was mentioned. If there was no original to compare to, what would you nitpick at?
OVERALL, I thought it was nice. I was glad to see many faces though people felt like they weren’t need. The POINT is they are part of the industry and I’m sure having them in this video peaked their fans’ interest! Yes they could pick another song but this was perfect for a situation like this and the concept needs no explanation. It’s the 25th anniversary so they wanted to remix it. Let it be.
Some of you are definitely missing the point and though some didn’t appreciate Wyclef’s parts, the other side (Haiti) understood it.
My one side eye was the rap part at first but I realized times have changed since the first song and it is smart to include an influential part in today’s music. The autotune wasn’t that bad.. get over it. It was fine to some of you before…TPain made it because of some supporters. I know majority of you have at least 1 song on your ipod/computer that has autotune. I was not bothered at all by Justin Beiber’s presence. ANNNNDDD Beyonce, Jay,etc were asked. We forgot the previous post about this song being created that said they would have to record separately??..guess their schedule didn’t permit.
IT’S RECORDED. YOU DIDN’T PRODUCE IT…LIONEL WAS THERE SO HE HAS SAY. EVERYONE IS AN EXPERT NOW-A-DAYS, huh. THE END. DONATE!
February 14th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
I agree that some folks had solos that probably shouldn't have; however, those in charge of the product know that the song/video would get more exposure with those folks involved.
The goal is to get people to watch/listen and donate to the cause by purchasing and some listeners will only be interested beceause certain folks like Weezy, TPain, Akon, etc were involved. I think there were enough singers with solos to make up for it though!
With all the talk about Janet Jackson going to a secret location and being mixed with Michael Jackson's vocals, I expected her to have a longer part, but overall, it's a good remake. Don't know WHY I was surprised with the hiphop breakdown…just didn't expect it, but it's all good. Thx for posting Jia!
February 14th, 2010 at 8:37 pm
1 million % agreed on the entire Jamie/Ray paragraph. I didn't think the shit was cute on Gold Digger and it still ain't. So happy it isn't just me feeling that way.
February 15th, 2010 at 6:49 am
I didn't like the Ray charles impression at all.. it made seem like a joke, but with some of the people included in the remake I guess it was supposed to be joke. Good cause but I strongly dislike this remake. Ohh and the Janet and Michael thing…. REALLY?? I gasped when I saw that. Does anyone think that Celine, J Hud and others looked around and thought WTF did I get myself into? Great intentions though!
February 15th, 2010 at 8:54 am
STOP IT!!!!!!!!!! STOP IT!!!!!!!!! I was DIZZY, so many GoshD*mn ppl poppin' in and out of the Damn Song.. *give me a moment* No they didn't need Beyonce.. why? so she can be talked about MORE!! They needed to change directors.. I mean come on.. Quincy and Lionel "WOULD" think this is cool, And I love THEM..But, their OLDER believing this is the new YOUNG.. Kinda like the Grandma Sporting Leggings and leather boots. This song sounds RUSHED and nothing to store in your Soul for safe keeping! It's INCOMPLETE!! This is why some parts may seem alil' better then others. That's like getting my nails done and my hair is all f*cked up.. Sorry Miss Jia, for such foul language..Thank you for posting this video.. You're right, because this is my first time seeing the video! I haven't joined twitter yet, I want to now, so I can follow ur tweets. And if they're anything like your blog, I'm joining soon!! *back to the video assault* I'm not going to say, I love this song just because the Artists with a mic, was no. 1 on the charts.. WTF.. THIS AIN'T IT!! I don't disagree with bringing in rappers.. But why didn't they RAP!!! WHYYYYY!!! @Joja.. One don't have to listen to the original version to know this is HELLA MESSY!! YES. Maybe ppl haven't heard the original song in years..But anyone that knows the original, CAN NEVER FORGET!!! If I haven't heard Gladys Knight "Midnight train to Georgia" in years.. (which I have) You best believe I'm gonna remember from my soul what she sounds like. and if someone comes along and f*cks it up, I suppose to be opened and agreeable because I haven't heard it 5 yrs..WTH. I don't believe that a remake of an original is a CRIME, there's many I liked. And why in the world would ppl say MICHAEL would LOVE this.. WHY?? Leave him OUT!!! Jaime Foxx's Impression was just SAD, is all I can say.. Just dammit' SAD. They put Michael's voice in, why not Raye's "God rest their soul"? All those wonderful voices in this video, I can feel and see a difference between the original "We are the World" video and song, and the joy they got out of SINGING this song and what we FELT listening to it.. Do you see the faces in this video? They're just THERE..Performing..that's all.. Doesn't mean they don't care about Haiti.. because that's why they joined. I have a feeling ALOT of "NEWS" will come of this..especially focusing on Artists in this video singing background..
February 15th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
1. Wyclef was doing a little too much, but that's understandable. It's his hometown. So I'll let him go at that point.
2. It was doing fine…..until…….Lil Wayne's autotuning ass came in the picture. I was like WTH!
3. Rap part was good. If anything, that was a message from God. Two word; "BEEF-FREE". But obviously, some didn't need to be there. *cough* like the person in the back *cough*
4. Gladys Knight definitely deserved a solo spot, and so did Natalie Cole.
5. Janet and Michael's part was cute. I was like "awwwwww".
6. Mary Mary=Ya'll better SANG it, girls!!
7. After listening to a vocal range video, Nicole S. is one BAD ASS pop singer.
February 16th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
Thank you! I agree..they really disrespected the original..they should of came up with another song..
