Essence Atkins Kim Kardashian Miss Jia 500x358 Essence Atkins is NOT HERE for Kim Kardashians Acting Career

When Tyler Perry made the decision to cast Kim Kardashian in his film, Temptation, it left a lot of folks scratching their heads and wondering why he would do such a thing. And it seems that after the film’s debut, most are still feeling that way.

One person in particular that was displeased with the casting decision was actress, Essence Atkins. She recently sat down with Sister 2 Sister Magazine and expressed her disappointment in Tyler for giving Kimmy her big screen debut.

“I found it interesting that Tyler did that with Temptation, hiring Kim Kardashian because she has 16 million Twitter followers, which would seem like a brilliant marketing plan,” Essence told Sister 2 Sister. “He has one of the biggest Twitter personalities out there in his movies, and he had one of the worst box office weekends.”

“It’s not a failure, but it did worse than his movies usually do just based on him,” clarified Essence. “I thought that was an interesting finding. You’re experiment didn’t work.”

“People want to see good stories. It’s not necessarily that they want to see Kim Kardashian in a movie. They want to see her in a bikini. They want to see her with Kanye [West]. They want to see her on her show talking about her life with her sisters, but that doesn’t mean that they want to see her in a movie,” she said. “The fact that people want to see their lives and the volatility of that…. I don’t’ think that it translates at all.”

We all know Essence is more known for her roles in flicks like How High than cinematic classics, but do you think her statement was justified? Was Kim cast merely for her popularity, or did Tyler really think she could handle the role? Most importantly, if you checked out the film, what are your thoughts on Kim’s acting skills?

Sound off!

Tyler Perry is back and ready to deliver to his loyal fans another dose of Madea.

An investment banker and his family are placed in the witness protection program, finding themselves relocated from their posh Connecticut neighborhood to Madea’s southern home.

Not too sure about this one. To be quite honest, I haven’t enjoyed very many of the Madea films. I’d say that I’m more of a fan of the others that aren’t necessarily centered around that particular character.

What do you guys think of the short clip? Will you be going to watch it?
