Elle 03 415x600 Elle Varner Does VIBE Vixen

Hands down, Elle Varner is one of my absolute favorite new artists, so I love seeing her continue to get the recognition she deserves.

Straight off of her recent Grammy nomination, she’s now gracing the latest cover of VIBE Vixen. Inside the issue she dishes about everything from learning to accept her new-found fame, to being a perfectionist, and even touches a bit on her love life.

On getting comfortable with fame:

I’m more comfortable with my choices. The more I step into Elle Varner as an artist, I’m more comfortable with what I want or what I feel like I want because that’s really what being an artist is. Playing into what you think people want you to be, that’s not an artist. It is scary, but that’s why the greatest ones are the one that take the risk and just be whatever they want.

On fans crying when they meet her:

It’s nuts [laughs]. I feel, honestly, that you have to constantly remind yourself that you are just like everyone else because everyone is treating you like you’re not. People are making you their savior, their role model, their idol. People actually love you, and it’s crazy. They’re like, ‘Don’t change’ [laughs] but you have to in a way. There’s no way not to. But you still want to keep the part of you that is pure.

On being a perfectionist with her music:

I probably went back and changed ” Not Tonight” the most. It’s one of those songs that every word had to be perfect. And I know the album is called Perfectly Imperfect [laughs] but… I’ll share something with you. On the bridge I say, ‘I’m standing here terrified,” and I was supposed to say “I’m standing here paralyzed/broken hearted I could die.” Little things like that.

On dating:

Yes, I’m warming up to it. My job is to travel the country, so I don’t have a place every day to see whoever I meet, but I think I’m more open [to dating]. I’m starting to feel more secure just as an artist and where I’m at, and now I think, ‘You might have time for a date.’

ElleVarner BleuMagazine Elle Varner Grabs A Refill In Her Recent Restaurant Themed Bleu Magazine Shoot

Raspy voiced R&B songstress, Elle Varner, was recently tapped by Bleu magazine for a black and white, restaurant themed-photo shoot. Inside, the singer talks about what inspired her to become a singer/songwriter, what sets her apart from other soul singers, and what she hopes to get across to the audience with her music.

On what inspired her to become a singer/songwriter:

My parents, I’ve always been a singer for as long I could remember.

On composing new material:

My process is very cathartic. A lot of times I am simply getting out my emotions through songs. It’s like my way of expressing myself. Sometimes I just have a melody that would pop into my head subconsciously like with “Refill” and I just start singing it; or I will have a situation that will happen and I would get my guitar knowing that I want to write something.

On what makes her sound different from other R&B Soul artists out today:

My sound is different because number one I feel like I have a very different kind of voice its not the most technically polished voice, it’s a little raspy and I can’t do all those runs. I think my subject matter is very personal because I write all my songs and just a mixture of hip-hop beats and classic R&B song structure.

On what she hopes to get across to the audience with your music:

I want people to really feel my music. I see people tweet all the time ‘oh Elle Varner has me in my feelings right now.’ I love that.

I Dont Care New Video: Elle Varner, I Dont Care

After dropping a behind-the-scenes look on Friday, the official video for Elle Varner’s I Don’t Care debuted on 106 & Park last night.

The video follows a few couples who ‘don’t care’ what anyone else thinks of their relationships, regardless of race, sex, etc. It’s not a super original concept, but the clip was cute.

Oh, and of course, Elle looks GORGEOUS as usual!

Check out the Lenny Bass-directed visual below, and post your thoughts.

ElleVarner SFPL Elle Varner Covers First Digital Issue of SFPL

Newcomer, Elle Varner, was chosen to cover the first ever digital issue of Stuff Fly People Like. The singer talks about her recent co-sign from Michelle Obama, her plans for R&B, her style and more.

I think Rhythm and Blues is missing the ‘Blues’ and that emotional hits-you-in-your-chest feeling that it was built on. The rhythms are there but the quality and content just aren’t what they used to be. Luckily, there are a lot of artists right now not only making great R&B, but getting some mainstream shine as well. I plan to take my music to a worldwide level so R&B isn’t the one trying to squeeze into the picture, but actually standing proud in the center of the photo.

Michelle Elle Elle Varner Gets a Shout Out From Michelle Obama

So your debut album just recently dropped, and you end up getting a shout out from the First Lady? Elle Varner just may be having the best week ever!

The folks over at E! News caught up with the FLOTUS on the opening day of the DNC for an exclusive, one-on-one chat. Mrs. Obama opened up about both politics and family…talking everything from gay marriage and the economy, to back to school shopping. When asked if her daughters, Malia and Sasha, help keep her ‘hip’ with what they’re watching and listening to, Michelle sang the praises of none other than Elle Varner.

Elle Varner…Malia is all on top of her. So she played her new album for me, and I picked out a couple of songs.

Once Elle got word of this, she took to Twitter to share her excitement.

It doesn’t really get much better than a Presidential co-sign does it?

Sidenote: Anyone else wondering which tracks from Imperfectly Perfect are Michelle’s faves?!

I am already a huge Elle Varner fan, but she’s managed to win me over even more with this one.

Elle was at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan last night to celebrate the release of her debut album, Imperfectly Perfect, and took the stage to perform a few tracks. Of course she gave the crowd a taste of her own singles like Refill and Only Wanna Give it to You, but one of the night’s highlights was when she covered Brandy’s classic, I Wanna be Down.

This girl can definitely sing her ass off!
