So, Roxanne Shante LIED??
I don’t mind retracting a story if I learn that what I posted was incorrect. I don’t mind making amendments to a blog entry if there were errors in my writing. However, I can’t stand having to post a blog entry to fix a lie. A couple a weeks ago, I posted THIS about Roxanne Shante, a former hip hop star that stated that due to a clause in her contract with Warner Music, she would receive a free education (paid for by them, of course). Come to find out, this girl LIED! What in the I-wanna-be-relevant hell? This doesn’t make any sense at all. Slate.com uncovered the truth…
An investigation by Slate has revealed:
* According to Warner, neither it nor any of its subsidiary record labels ever had a contract with Shanté, and it was not obligated to pay for her education. Indeed, there’s no evidence that it ever did.
* Shanté—real name Lolita Shanté Gooden—doesn’t have a Ph.D. from Cornell or anywhere else. Indeed, she admitted it in an interview with Slate. And Cornell has no record of Gooden (or “Shanté”) ever attending or receiving a degree.
* According to Marymount Manhattan College records, Shanté enrolled there but dropped out less than four months later without ever earning a degree.
* New York state records indicate that no one named Lolita Gooden or Roxanne Shanté is licensed to practice psychology or any related field.

As a black woman currently getting a phD i am appalled by this discovery. Working toward a phD is hard work & should not be mocked by those wanting the credentials without putting forth the effort. I remember her being on Miss Jones a year or so ago talking about how she was Dr. Roxanne Shante teaching in some school in some hick town. I am disgusted by her lies

Omg I can’t believe she’s been lying all these years. What about the rap documentary from years ago. It was extensive to she talked all about how she and her mother got them to fund her education and the label kept asking her when she would be done ’cause they were tired of paying. SHDH that is way to much lying. I know I wont be fronting like her when I finally get my real PH.D is Psch.

Rather pathetic. I heard about this farce since sometime last year and wondered just how and who ressurected this piece of tripe. Oh how trifling this woman must be for lying about checkable facts. FAIL!

I cant believe it. I didnt even know that people could lie that much and then keep the lie going for years. What in the hell would be her motivation for telling this elaborate lie? What did she think that she was going to get out of it? She is making woman everywhere look bad. I am truely upset about this shit.
