Sade Shuts Down Collabo With Drake, Other Artists

Oops! I guess Sade cut off any questions at the knees and told Drake and others to have a seat because she’s not DOWN with the collabos!

Drake said he wasn’t upset when he heard that Sade — an artist he had wanted to collaborate with on his upcoming Thank Me Later debut — said she’s not into guest-starring on anyone’s project.

“I don’t think they have contacted me,” Sade, 51, told Canada’s National Post last month. “I’ve never collaborated because I’ve always avoided working outside my safety zone — I can be exactly who I am and can fail or succeed within the moment. I feel safe working like I do. I wouldn’t want to work in a situation where I am expected to deliver, because I think I wouldn’t deliver.”

Drake said he might not get with her this time, but maybe on a future album.

“That’s great. Her brand is always protected. That’s why,” Drake said of her comments on the set of his “Over” video last week in California. “Other people’s visuals, other people’s songs, stepping outside your zone can jeopardize your brand. It can bring you down as opposed to bring you up. I personally feel we could have done something amazing. But I don’t think she really knows who I am, really, my genre of music. I put it out there. It was more of a hopeful thing. It was a very early stage where I was at when I said that I was hoping. One day. Maybe after this album comes out.

“I’m very influenced by her,” he added. “She does something that I do. She doesn’t do too much with harmonies, and she keeps her vocals very clean. Single vocals. Haunting melodies. I’m influenced by her a lot. One day.”

ummm…. Sade doesn't know who you are???? She probably does, Drake. I'm sorry but rapping abt money, cars, clothes and hoes doesnt make you any different than the other "rappers" out there. Your delivery is just different that's all, boo. Sade is above that.

  2. @SRU_Principal Says:

Anyone who thinks that's all Drake raps about clearly hasn't heard the bulk of his material….

  3. @Tystarr Says:

*clap clap clap* Thank you for educating these people.

  4. shalia Says:

i love sade, but all her songs sound the same maybe she should try a callbo.drake is very talented and a song with him could expose her to a new generation.

  5. @moeluv1277 Says:

expose her to a new generation? whose to say the new generation dont already know who Sade is? Im happy she said she not doing collabs, drake probably thought she'd be interested because hes popular now, LOL I think not!!!!

  6. hmmm Says:

Well then I guess that he shouldn't just put raps about cars, clothes and hoes. If that isn't what he is about, why is he letting that represent him. When you come out with singles and videos in essence you are saying "this is who I am". And odds are Drake is a fly by night. The way music is now a days most people aren't making music with substance.

  7. K-N Says:

BRAVO SADE!!!!!! These new mediocre artists want to involve legendary artists in their fuckery. Rapping about making females' pussies whistle is far from high quality music. Sade is CLASSY & DIGNIFIED. She does not need to be involved in hip hop. I don't hate hip hop but the subject matter of most hip hop makes it hard for me to respect it as an "art form" Conscious artists like Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, etc are the only people trying to spread a positive message.

  8. @playerette88 Says:

I wouldn't put Sade through the torment of working w/ Drake…I commend her for shutting that shit down before it even began….
Why fuck up something that's been working for you before Drake was a tingle in his Daddy nutsack?
    #imjustsaying

  9. bknyc Says:

I can't knock Sade's decision to avoid collabos but this shouldn't be a greenlight to knock Drake. I commend Sade for staying true to her artistic principles and only doing what she feels comfortable doing. Sure she makes music that the public is asked to consume but music is probably a labor of love for artists like her. I don't think she refused the collabo as a subliminal shot at Drake.

  10. LadyJFabulous Says:

Sorry, but Sade doesn't need anyone riding on her coat tails. What has worked for her all these years will continue to work. She's been doing pretty good thus far without help. Check her stats. The young folks are so used to mofos collaborating because clearly most of these "artists" nowadays can't stand alone, solid on their own talent. There's no need to water down pure talent like Sade with any mediocre mofo. The only collabos I wanna see Sade do are with the likes of Maxwell, Jill Scott, Kem, etc. You know…singers, and not these fake a$$ "artists."

  11. @TyTyger Says:

I'm glad she turn Drake down we have enough "Once upon a time" good old artist trying to be young & something their aren't & trying to please the "new" generation when they're trying to find what made the old generation what it was.

  12. @SitchoAzzDown Says:

51 though? Sade is sh*ttin on mofo's looking good. As far as this, I respect Drake. point blank period. He's cool with her stance on collabo's & i understand why she feels that way.

  13. @dinastyinc Says:

I have to agree. As overblown as he is, Drake does bring something fresh to the game for me. His flow. His delivery. His play on words. The fact that he DOESN'T talk about the same shit in every song.
He's a rich kid, before the music fame, so that's what he talks about. He didn't grow up in the gutter, and he doesn't speak like it.

  14. jax Says:

LOL @ These new, mediocre artists want to involve legendary artists in their fuckery.

  15. mialove Says:

For some reason I knew this would turn into a bash on Drake or any other up & coming artist. I respect Sade and I really don't blame her for turning down collabos but obviously these young artist have something working for them and even if some of us feel they aren't up to standards and so forth so on who are we to judge? exactly . Keep doing your thing Sade & Drake.

  16. Allergic 2 B.S. Says:

    THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT…….COSIGN!

I LIKE DRAKE & EVERYTHING, BUT UH….YEAH, I DEF. COSIGN!

  17. Allergic 2 B.S. Says:

    @hmmm…….COSIGN!!!!!!!

I agree, that Drake is VERY talented (which is why I like him), but uh, yeah….If he
expects people 2 see him in a Sade type of light, then he might wanna think about
putting out some of this so-called "Unique Lyrics" that I'm quite sure doesn't exist.

@SRU_Principal, people know what they like/don't like, & if they hear certain types of
lyrics on every song that comes on the radio, then OBVIOUSLY they're gonna assume
that that's the particular route that artist is going 4. Like when Ciara 1st came out.
I thought she was aight, but not enough 4 me 2 cop her album….Until I heard "OH."
I know this is a totally diff. senario, but my point is, if it wasn't 4 "Oh," I would've never
copped her "Goodies" album (& would've missed out on all the other unheard songs
on that album that I love).

    @Tystarr….Educating who????

  18. Allergic 2 B.S. Says:

    HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See, that's the MF problem right there!
WHY should she have 2 compromise her I.N.T.E.G.R.I.T.Y 2 please
    this (ungrateful a.d.d motherf*ckas) generation….HELLO, she's MF SADE!!!!!!!
She already came, saw & conqered. Right now, she's another Janet, she's at a place
in HER career, where she (unlike the young artist's of 2day) doesn't have 2 prove
    ANYTHING 2 ANY1!

She has her OWN style, she does her OWN thing (like she always have)!
    Need I repeat myself….She's SADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She doesn't need 2 adjust 2 Drake or an1 else's style of music!
She doesn't have 2 catch up w/ these mofos, ish, if anything,
they have 2 T.R.Y & catch up w/ her….F*ck you talking bout?! You must be young!
    *smh*

  19. Allergic 2 B.S. Says:

    @K-N….COSIGN!

Chris Rock said it best…."I love hip hop, but it's HAAAAAAAARD 2 defend this ish!!!!!!!"

  20. Allergic 2 B.S. Says:

    *lls* COSIGN!!!!!!!

  21. Allergic 2 B.S. Says:

    COSIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Allergic 2 B.S. Says:

    EXACTLY…….2 WORDS…….MARIAH CAREY!!!!!!!

She aight & everything, but come on man….

  23. jess Says:

Good for Sade!! I’d suffer a heart attack if I heard a song by her and Drizzle or whatever his name is. I almost suffered a stroke when I saw Stevie Wonder performing with the Jonas Brothers at the Grammys one year *shudders just thinking about it*

  24. ben Says:

yeah that would be great. he could tell Sade she was the best he ever had and make her is ho (rolling my eyes)

  25. K-N Says:

That was one of the few things Chris Rock was right about. Otherwise I can't stand his ignorant cooning ass. Besides why does he feel the need to "defend" hip hop? If it was so great there would be nothing to defend.

  26. hmmm Says:

….what??? Of course we have the right to judge their music. We are CONSUMERS!!! So if we feel their music isn't up to par…we can talk about it. People kill me with this fake political b.s. People can have their opinions. Just like you have yours.

  27. @lolamarya Says:

I like Drake and all, but Sade is not going to ever collab with him. She's still making hits and staying in her zone. Most artists try to do to much and appeal to too many people and never show who they truly are as an artist. She has done that and has a lot of success. She should never do anything to jeopardize that.

  28. J-T Says:

I like Drake, and I actually find him a talented rapper (Have you all listened to his mixtape songs? Wow!), but I'm going to be honest. Lil Wayne f***ed it up, molding him into one of his own army. Nicki MInaj is in the same situation with Drake. Can you really blame them?

Another blame of how music is now….CONSUMERS and the people behind the music, telling how things should be in order for them to be famous (*cough*L.A. Reid*cough*)

With that being said, why can't you all appreciate that he is influenced by Sade instead of bashing him. He obviously has good taste.

However, I do agree on Sade's behalf. It takes her out of her comfort zone, which no musician would have to go through really.

  29. shalia Says:

i should be able to have an opinion without being curse at.smmfh you must be old

    lol… right….

if you go to a restaurant and you find a roach in your food you tell your friends… you tell yo co-workers… you tell strangers on the train… everytime you hear the name of that restaurant you tell your story to make sure everybody knows they nasty over there…

to some of us BS in music, or the direction of "hip-hop" is like finding a roach in our food
