Official Trailer for Chris Rock’s “Good Hair”
Wow, this looks like it’s going to be good! I can’t wait to see it. As many of you know, I stopped perming my hair almost five years ago and haven’t looked back. People tell me all the time that the only reason I am able to pull off the natural look is because I allegedly have good hair. After such a remark, I politely ask “Well what IS good hair?” I’m not stupid…I know what they’re implying but I ask that to see what type of response I get. In my very humble opinion, any hair that’s on your hair is ‘good.’ If it works for you, it’s doing a good job. *shrugs shoulders* Post your thoughts on the trailer! Can’t wait to hear what you have to say!
PS: I especially love the parts where Raven Symone, Lauren London, Nia Long, Meagan Good, Salt & Pepa, etc all talk about weaves! Way to go, Chris Rock!

I had heard about this back in January!!! It’s finally coming out in October…and I am soooooooooooooooo going to see it!!! I think everyone should. I love HAIR period. And “hair education”…I think is relevant and beneficial for everyone no matter the race. Way to go Chris Rock!

Sighs. I’m a little over the hair thing. You have one set of females that swear anyone who puts relaxer in their hair is a ‘sellout’. The other group thinks natural hair is ‘a mess’ or ‘nappy’ (I hate that term, btw. BLACK hair is ‘kinky’, or ‘over-curly’.)
I’m bi-racial and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn my hair in it’s natural, curly state and someone (usually one of our very own Black folks) says ‘oh, you look prettier with your hair straight.’ o_0
Uh, how about I like and appreciate my natural curls. Yes, I do wear it straight sometimes simply b/c I get bored and I do have that option.
This will probably be funny b/c Chris is a funny dude – but when he says to the Indian woman ‘if you see a Black woman, run’…am I supposed to laugh? Pffft. Sorry but Black women can grow their hair just as long with proper care, patience and maintenance.
Go to any Black hair care forum and see what I’m talking about. I wish people would stop limiting themselves based on what another race thinks – so what you wear weave/wigs dye your hair etc.?! Doesn’t mean a thing other than you like it. Doesn’t mean you want to ‘be another race’.
Sighs again. Get over the ‘hair’ thing, folks. We’re so much more than hair.

Can’t see video… but I think “good hair” is healthy hair. Be it natural or permed. I think Queen Latifiah has good hair as well a Oprah. Both who has relaxed hair but healthy and bouncy. A bi racial/non black person can have unhealthy hair and that to me is not good.

Thanks Jia for this. I really appreciate the work Chris and his Wife is doing to bring awareness to so many different issues. This is going to be a good one. And honey, I love my natural hair. Can’t keep my hands out of there. And the men that know how to appreciate it, they love it too.

I can’t wait to see this. That creamy crack is the devil! Most women who use it hair look a mess anyway.
August 3rd, 2009 at 1:15 pm
I’m glad the issue is being brought to the table on an international scale because I really do think its time for black people to educate themselves when it comes to their hair.
I just hope there aren’t any broad generalizations or that he isn’t poking fun at the choice not to be natural. Especially considering we’re not the only race that use relaxers or weaves it up.

Sometimes it feels good being a man, especially when you hear all the crap females go through to conform their hair to the white womans appeal.
Relaxer kills your scalp overtime. I don’t get females sometimes? all you have to do is a have confidence in yourself and your beauty will shine reguardless on how you look. People are attracted to confidence, and with confidence comes caring for yourself and well being. Once you master that you will be a sexy godess no matter what the haters say.

I can’t wait to see this. I actually got a relaxer today after 4 months i jus couldn’t manage my hair i couldn’t deal with two textures. I’ve been wearing baidouts in my hair since spring/summer. I would love to be natural again i jus don’t have the patience. FYI to my relax ladies you don”t have to get relaxer every 6 weeks. I get a relaxer every 4 months. I wish i was confident enough to go bald like solange but i’m one of these ppl who is attached to my hair =(
August 3rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
I haven’t had a relaxer in 6 mos. I even tweeted Jia and asked her about her going natural. I had a sew-in for a month or so, braids for 3 mos, now I am just natural. I am using many natural products such as Giovanni, Jane Carter, I am about to order some Oyin Handmade. It is getting frustrating but I am holding strong. I want to get braids again, or a weave, but we will see.

I’m glad this movie is comming out. Sometimes we as women have issues with our hair.
August 3rd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
OMG! This is right up my alley. I can’t wait. LMAO when he told that Indian woman to run if she sees black women. SMH So true..xD Did my boo Raven move the extensions so we could see???? ahahaha I love her even more now. This will definitely be very interesting. I do not believe in good hair. I believe in healthy hair and damaged hair. I don’t care what texture you have if you take care of it it will look GOOD. If you don’t know wtheezy ur doing it can look a hot buttered mess regardless of ur hair type. I frequent several hair boards/forums/blogs and have seen it with thine own eyes.

i can’t stand chris rock, but i’ll go see this movie simply for the content. maybe it’ll help some of our younger black women be comfortable in their own skin.
p.s. when raven pulled her hair from side to side, i -died- instantly. do not pass go, do NOT collect $200!

Love it can’t wait to see it! I’m so over t his whole good hair business… Black women are soooo misinformed when it comes to hair. I encourage my girls to join hair forums
August 4th, 2009 at 11:58 am
This looks good, and i think will take the black community as well as the WHITE community by storm. Finally.. white girls wont ask… how do you get your hair like that.
Personally I am a fan of weaves and lace fronts.. but i think im on th verg of cutting it all off and going Chrisettes route
August 4th, 2009 at 10:15 pm

WOOT WOO!!! JIA…MY 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IS THE 17TH OF THIS MONTH!!! Maybe I’ll make a youtube video! I forget when your anniversary is… I went to the Egyptians to get a price for a blow out, $80!!! $20 for every year w/o a perm I guess! lol
August 11th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
This looks amazing!! I knew all those girls have weaves!!
September 8th, 2009 at 8:35 am
I think this will be a very interesting movie, but I feel what Jazmine was saying. I’ve personally chosen to no longer relax my hair because that is what works for me. I am not anti-chemicals or anything else for whomever chooses that. I will usually wear my hair naturally curly, but I will flat iron it sometimes depending on what I need my hair to do. Some people like to point out how much they like my hair straightened vs. curly when I have never solicited their opinion. I absolutely hate that.

i am so excited 4 this movie!! I LOLd when they said dont touch my weave!! That is definitely a no-no!! lolz
