RIP: Michael Jackson

Like many of you, I still can’t believe that it’s been a full year since the passing of the great Michael Jackson. He was such a wonderful artist who laid the foundation for many of the artists that we all know and love today. Many will try to emulate him but I think that most will fall short. Although troubled, he was an amazing talent that will live on forever. I’ll definitely be telling my children about him! I wanted to post these two songs by MJ because they’re two of my favorites. Pretty Young Thing is a fave because I remember my mom singing it to me (while poking my belly hahaha). My other favorite jam by MJ is Rock With You. There are SO many more that I love but these are my two favorites. Check out more after the break!

RIP: Lena Horne

Legendary singer & actress, Lena Horne, has passed away in Manhatten at the age of 92. I remember being a little girl and seeing her on the Sanka coffee commercials. I use to tell my great grandmother (RIP) that she was absolutely gorgeous and I loved her smile. She always seemed so pleasant and full of life. She inspired many with her work. You can read more about her death HERE.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

How many of you got a chance to check out the Michael Jackson tribute during the 2010 Grammys? I’m sure that most of you heard that you should get some 3D glasses to get the full effect of the performance. Additionally, Target announced that they would be offering the glasses free of charge so that people could watch the dedication without issue. I don’t have a complaint about the performances because they were what they were, I guess. But were my glasses the only ones that didn’t work? Target provided you with about 4 pairs of glasses on one sheet…I checked ‘em all and nann pair worked. So I decided to call Target, just to see if anyone else complained. Queue the dramatics…I was just having fun although I really am mad as hell that I didn’t see what some of YOU may have seen.

Here’s the full tribute.

Now Either R. Kelly Ain’t Sh*t…

…or he needs another piss trial so his lawyers and label heads have something else better to do.

A couple months back, I posted THIS VIDEO of Michael Jackson sitting in the car, KILLIN’ R. Kelly’s hit song, Ignition. Well, apparently Universal Music is going after MJ’s estate to the tune of $3k because he never paid for the rights to use it. Word? So we have to pay for songs that we sing in the car now? I swear I’m riding mute mouth from now on…

RIP: Teddy Pendergrass

Prayers and condolences for the family of Teddy Pendergrass:

Teddy Pendergrass, who became R&B’s reigning sex symbol in the 1970s and ’80s with his forceful, masculine voice and passionate love ballads and later became an inspirational figure after suffering a devastating car accident that left him paralyzed, died Wednesday at age 59.

The singer’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died at Bryn Mawr Hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The singer underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had “a difficult recovery,” his son said.

“To all his fans who loved his music, thank you,” his son said. “He will live on through his music.”

Pendergrass suffered a spinal cord injury and was paralyzed from the waist down in the 1982 car accident. He spent six months in a hospital but returned to recording the next year with the album “Love Language.”

He returned to the stage at Live Aid in 1985, performing from his wheelchair.
