Hi Jia,

I’ve been a fan of your blog for a few years now and this is my first time writing to you. I just got home from a lovely concert with my family and had the opportunity to be backstage to meet a few of the artists. The reason I’m writing to you is to tell you about my experience. I got there and noticed that Brandy was arriving during the show with her current boyfriend and her brother, Ray-J.

I was excited to see someone I have been a fan of for years but was immediately turned off by her behavior towards the staff at the venue. From what I was able to witness all three of them (Brandy, her boyfriend and Ray-J) were checking in and getting their passes to get in and right off the bat she was extremely rude. She had this standoffish attitude that led everyone to believe that she had to be catered to because of who she is. At this point, Ray- J was doing all of the talking and she was waiting to the side annoyed. He was basically talking to anyone that was listening because no one was really checking for him or better yet knew who he was. Out of nowhere he just starts talking about Brandy’s boyfriend and giving him all types of praises. He kept saying how he loved him, and how he was good for his sister because he just does whatever she says and doesn’t argue with it. I believe it because the entire night he kept following her around like a puppy looking for a new home and when they would engage with others in a conversation he just stood there. Either way I don’t know why he was telling his sisters business to anyone that would listen, yet cared.

I then noticed she was mingling and asked one of the staff members for some water. Yeah it might not seem like a big deal but the way she did it was very unnecessary. She looked at this woman and said, ‘Get me some water,’ and the staff member snapped back and said ‘the correct word that comes after that is please,’ and pointed to the bar and said, ‘the bar is right over there for everyone backstage if you need anything.’ At this point I thought something was going to pop off LOL but instead Ray-J tells the woman, ‘do you know who we are?’ The woman replied and said, ‘yes, I know who you are and like I said the bar is that way.’

Then she was complaining how she didn’t like the food that was there and wanted to send one of the staff members to go get her food and have THEM pay for it. WTH?

From what I saw she was there attending the show as an audience member but felt she had to have the green room service as if she was performing. I felt bad for the staff member and how she was spoken to but at the same time I was surprised she said something back. Usually people don’t say anything because they might be afraid to lose their job but at the same time there is a fine line between keeping your job and being disrespected. I personally would have reacted the same way.

I have been a fan of hers since she first hit the scene but now I am no longer a fan. You have to remain humble in a business like this because the public is who makes you who you are. I remember she had a similar episode at another concert I attended and she was there but I figured she was just having a bad day. Either way I am no longer a fan and will no be supporting her new album, she is extremely rude and at this point, she needs to realize she is trying to make a come back and this isn’t a good time to be rude to the public.

P.S. Her lacefront application was horrible and as much attitude as she had she is lucky no one brought it to her attention that the edges of it was damn near at the tail of her eyebrows.

Sincerely,

An ex Brandy fan!

Reader Sound Off: Frank Ocean Doesnt Care About His Fans

So on August 1st, Frank Ocean was due to perform at the Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit, MI with the doors opening up at 7 PM. So I made the arrangements, packed my car up and then drove 3 hours to Detroit to get to the concert. I left out for the show early cause I wanted to be first in line and also up front at the show because I love(d) Frank Ocean so much and was ready to jam my life away.

So I got there around 1:30 PM with other fans not showing up until about 3:30 PM starting to line up behind me. But from 1:30 PM until 3:30PM Frank Ocean nor his camp were anywhere in the building. There was no sound check or anything from those two hours I was waiting. So naturally the fans start getting to know each other, talking about Frank, just some idle chit chat as they begin to arrive one by one. About 4:00 PM one of the workers of Saint Andrews Hall came out & told us that the show was postponed and Frank was not going to be performing that night.

Immediately I’m sitting there like this has to be a joke, so naturally all of the fans go to his twitter, tumblr, and instagram to see if he made a statement about canceling the show, nothing. Many of the fans still stayed around not believing the worker until they put a sign up that said:

Yesterday, Twitter was up in arms when a guy (@OfficiallyIce) wrote an article on In Flex, We Trust titled 10 Reasons Black Guys Prefer White Girls*. With a few people finding the article funny and others thinking that the article was crass, opinions were divided like sh*t.

In steps Trishy (@MeanGirlTrishy), who decided that it’s only fair to write a counter to Ice’s blog post. Prepare yourself, boys and girls. This one is going to be a doozy!

*Before reading Ice or Trishy’s blog posts, you HAVE to know that SOMEBODY in this world does love Black women!
