Usher U.O.E.N.O Miss Jia Usher Hops on U.O.E.N.O + Is He a Better Dancer Than Chris Brown?

Usher’s in the studio trying to keep up with the cool kids. The crooner lends his vocals (with a lil’ taste of rap) to the track U.O.E.N.O, a song that put Tit Ross on red alert for his tasteless rapey lyric.

Via Stupid Dope

I’m always happy to hear anything from Usher (until he starts with the Euro-pop trash). Give it a listen and let me know your thoughts!

Last night during the Billboard Awards where Chris Brown performed his latest track, Fine China, several people complained that Breezy spends more time these days trying to mimic Michael Jackson rather than working to build himself as a dancing brand. The real debate started, however, when someone said that Usher impersonates Michael way better than Chris Brown.

I’ve always been a fan of Usher’s and always will be. I definitely was around during his day where handstands and backflips weren’t a thang. But even with all the extra acrobatics, I still don’t believe he’s f-cking with Breezy on the dance tip! What do you guys think?

kiera wilmot Miss Jia Open Discussion: Florida Teen, Kiera Wilmot, Charged With Felony After Science Experiment Goes Bad

Punishment well deserved or over the top?

Kiera Wilmot got good grades and had a perfect behavior record. She wasn’t the kind of kid you’d expect to find hauled away in handcuffs and expelled from school, but that’s exactly what happened after an attempt at a science project went horribly wrong.

On 7 a.m. on Monday, the 16 year-old mixed some common household chemicals in a small 8 oz water bottle on the grounds of Bartow High School in Bartow, Florida. The reaction caused a small explosion that caused the top to pop up and produced some smoke. No one was hurt and no damage was caused.

According to WTSP, Wilmot told police that she was merely conducting a science experiment. Though her teachers knew nothing of the specific project, her principal seems to agree.

“She made a bad choice. Honestly, I don’t think she meant to ever hurt anyone,” principal Ron Pritchard told the station. “She wanted to see what would happen [when the chemicals mixed] and was shocked by what it did. Her mother is shocked, too.”

After the explosion Wilmot was taken into custody by a school resources officer and charged with possession/discharge of a weapon on school grounds and discharging a destructive device. She will be tried as an adult.

She was then taken to a juvenile assessment center. She was also expelled from school and will be forced to complete her diploma through an expulsion program.

Riptide spoke to the Polk County School District about why they felt expulsion was a fair punishment for Wilmot. Their response: kids should learn that “there are consequences to their actions.”

interracial couple miss jia Open Discussion: My Husband Calls Me N gger Bitch During Sex

This reminded me of a Ask Miss Jia letter posted a few months back entitled My Threesome with a White Woman Brought Out Weird Fetish.

Taken from Essence.com:

Dear Abiola,

My man keeps calling me a “nigger bitch” during sex and I hate it.

I have been married for a year and I am at my wit’s end. My investment banker husband is from a White old money family. I am a first generation Black-American woman whose family is from the island of Jamaica. We met at a reunion for the ivy league school we both attended, and he proposed in six months.

We have the picture perfect fantasy life. He wines and dines me and we travel and shop the globe. Unlike all of the Black men I dated in the past, my husband is generous, loyal, committed and considerate. He courted me and I never have to pay for anything. He said I could quit my job and I did. He makes me feel like a woman.

I am a little embarrassed to share our problem. The first time he let the n-word drop was during sex on our honeymoon. When I reacted negatively, he explained that a Black woman he dated in the past enjoyed being called racial slurs. Another time he joked that he had purchased my freedom. He also speculated about whether his family could have owned mine because I have “good hair.” Then he made jokes about my pubic hair. He called it my “negro bush” and referred to himself as a “nigger lover.” He says I am being overly sensitive because he loves me to death and should get a “Black pass” for marrying me.

black friends Open Discussion: You Slept With Your Friends New Man YEARS Ago, Do You Tell Her?

Every now and then when I feel as though Twitter isn’t jumping, I’ll post a Question of the Day to get my followers to engage one another.

Yesterday, I asked the following question:

Screen Shot 2013 04 02 at 1.04.05 AM Open Discussion: You Slept With Your Friends New Man YEARS Ago, Do You Tell Her?

As one should expect, the answers from the ladies of Twitter went left and right. While some believe that they owe their friend loyalty, others felt that if it was that long ago, it shouldn’t really matter as much.

The scenario’s been given, folks; take everything as is (without trying to analyze how long you guys have been friends, if you slept with the guy multiple times, etc.,).

So what’s your answer. Do you tell or remain mum? I can’t wait to see what you guys have to say!

69D979C3854F9F08C1A8ABDC9524 h231 w308 m5 ciHvoNIdL News Anchor Fired for Responding to Natural Hair Comment on Facebook

Wow! Wanna talk about some bullshit!

Meteorologist, Rhonda Lee, was recently terminated for her position at KTBS for responding to a heckler on Facebook.

After seeing Lee on the news one day, Emmitt Vascou had a few choice words.

the black lady that does the news is a very nice lady.the only thing is she needs to wear a wig or grow some more hair. im not sure if she is a cancer patient. but still its not something myself that i think looks good on tv. what about letting someone a male have waist long hair do the news.what about that (cq).

Seeing the comment, Lee gave him a (polite) piece of her mind.

Hello Emmitt–I am the ‘black lady’ to which you are referring. I’m sorry you don’t like my ethnic hair. And no I don’t have cancer. I’m a non-smoking, 5’3, 121 lbs, 25 mile a week running, 37.5 year old woman, and I’m in perfectly healthy physical condition.

I am very proud of my African-American ancestry which includes my hair. For your edification: traditionally our hair doesn’t grow downward. It grows upward. Many Black women use strong straightening agents in order to achieve a more European grade of hair and that is their choice. However in my case I don’t find it necessary. I’m very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display. Women come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and levels of beauty. Showing little girls that being comfortable in the skin and HAIR God gave me is my contribution to society. Little girls (and boys for that matter) need to see that what you look like isn’t a reason to not achieve their goals.

Conforming to one standard isn’t what being American is about and I hope you can embrace that.

Thank you for your comment and have a great weekend and thank for watching.

KTBS later fired her, saying that she violated an ‘unwritten rule.’ This entire story is a mess.

What say you, guys and gals? Was the station justified in terminating Lee for addressing a Facebook fan or do you think their actions were over the top?

390 brady kifer 2 1126 500x307 Excessive or Justified? Man Shoots Teens Who Broke Into His Home

Via NY Daily News:

A Minnesota homeowner who shot two teenagers in the midst of an apparent Thanksgiving Day break-in told authorities he feared they had a weapon, but acknowledged firing “more shots than I needed to” and appeared to take pride in “a good clean finishing shot” for one teen, according to investigators.

Byron David Smith, 64, was charged Monday with two counts of second-degree murder in a criminal complaint that was chilling for the clinical way investigators said he described the shootings.

Smith told investigators he shot 18-year-old Haile Kifer several times as she descended a stairway into his basement, and his Mini 14 rifle jammed as he tried to shoot her again after she had tumbled down the steps.
Though Kifer was “already hurting,” she let out a short laugh, Smith told investigators. He then pulled out his .22-caliber revolver and shot her several times in the chest, according to the complaint.

“If you’re trying to shoot somebody and they laugh at you, you go again,” Smith told investigators, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

Smith was also charged in the death of Kifer’s cousin, 17-year-old Nicholas Schaeffel.

brady 3 1126 Excessive or Justified? Man Shoots Teens Who Broke Into His HomeMinnesota law allows a homeowner to use deadly force on an intruder if a reasonable person would fear they’re in danger of harm, and Smith told investigators he was afraid the intruders might have a weapon. However, Smith’s actions weren’t justified, Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said.

“The law doesn’t permit you to execute somebody once a threat is gone,” he said.

Open Discussion: Blogger Writes Open Letter to Zoe Saldana on Her Role as Nina Simone
The internet has been in a serious uproar ever since it was announced that Afro-Latina actress, Zoe Saldana, would play the legendary Nina Simone in an upcoming biopic.

I’ve seen a TON of tweets complaining about the creation of this movie, and even a few blog posts condemning the actress’ portrayl.

More recently, Kimberly Foster of For Harriet penned an open letter to Zoe condemning her lack of awareness.

Few dark-skinned actresses in Hollywood could open a film. That’s not your fault. However, in the future, I would caution you from making statements like, “..why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?” Because even in the United States where Barack Obama is the president, dark skin, kinky hair and African features are still loathed.

Check out the FULL letter HERE.

Additionally, check out Atlanta Sistah’s views on the matter below. Quite the opposite, eh?

My thoughts: I’m not the big Zoe fan that some of you guys are. So I can’t cosign on how great her acting is without sounding misinformed (I’ve seriously only paid attention to her in Drumline and even then, Nick Cannon’s dry lips were a bigger distraction). However, I will say that Hollywood is doing nothing new here. Yes, I wish they could’ve gotten an actress that resembles Simone a bit more…an unknown actress would’ve been my #1 choice. But Hollywood has been telling us for years that being brown or dark isn’t good enough. All of this is disappointing, yes, but it’s not really a surprise.

Post your thoughts!
