Late But Open Discussion: Fantasia Blames Media Attention on Skin Tone

Fantasia has been the flavor of the week for the past several weeks due to an affair that she’s had with a married man. A couple weeks ago, Fanny attempted to commit suicide by allegedly swallowing a whole bottle of aspirin because she was tired of it all and simply wanted a way out. Her management team quickly released a statement that said Fantasia had come under much more media scrutiny than she bargained for and ultimately blamed her attempt on all of the unwanted attention.

Fantasia spoke candidly with Vibe.com about the recent media attention that she has received and says that her dark skinned has played a huge role in the media treating her differently from Alicia Keys other women who have committed the same offense. In my eyes, both women are of the same vain and neither should be seen as the lesser; Ultimately, they both assisted in the disrespect of a union. Again, it just so happens that Fantasia is this week’s flavor but as soon as another celebrity is caught slipping, they’ll be all over the blogs too. Do you agree with Fantasia and her beliefs on the media thrusting her into the spotlight is only due to her skin complexion? Why or why not? Check out what she had to say after the break and post your thoughts.

Montana Fishburne is REALLY Serious + Open Discussion

You can peep the box cover for Montana’s new movie (due out August 18th) after the break!

Additionally, I’ve been perusing the ‘net and noticing that she has gained quite a bit of attention, largely in part to her being the daughter of a famous actor. But something else that I’m noticing is that there were a LOT of blogs who referred to Laurence Fishburne as a failure because of the route his daughter has chosen to take. Where do you stand on this issue…do you believe that Montana is making these decisions of her own free will or do you think that Laurence failed her as father and “pushed” her into the lifestyle. Feel free to post your thoughts!!

Steph Jones Talks Dark Skinned Women

Steph Jones recently took to his Youtube channel to talk about an incident where he complimented a dark skinned woman in front of a Black man and how the guy expressed his disdain for women of a darker complexions. In the video, Steph is asking for positive dialogue on fixing this issue or what we can do to change people’s minds on complexion. Do you guys think it’s possible? I wonder…

Open Discussion: Tank Likes Toys + WWYD?

Singer & songwriter, Tank, (don’t worry…I forgot about his ass too) recently sat down with Vibe.com to give us all some advice on how to keep the spice on ten in the bedroom. First Khia and now this:

Don’t be afraid of toys, they’re fun. Toys only on the women! No toys on me! But the silver bullet is one of my favorites, and the g spot dildo–the one that curves up–that’s another one of my personal favorites. Food doesn’t count as a toy. Walk in the store with your lady and don’t be embarrassed. Men try to act like we’re not as nasty as we are so that we won’t give off the trueness about it but women can make a man feel more comfortable by introducing it like, “Let’s go to this store, let’s watch a porn together,” and they’ll be surprised at how a man will react to it. We get excited about knowing we’re not the only nasty creatures In the world.

You can read the rest of the article HERE but this also leads me to my question for the day:

Ladies: How would you feel if your man wanted to bring toys into the bedroom? Would you think that it was a bit freaky or weird? Is this something that would turn you on? Why or why not?

Fellas: Would you want to bring toys into the bedroom with your lady (whether they’re used on you OR her…comment either way)? Why or why not?

Oh…and check out who Tank would marry, bone or call his mistress after the break. Black women STAY losing!

Open Discussion: Can You Admit WHY You’re Single?

…and this is only assuming that you are.

A couple nights ago, I went out and met a guy. We shared drinks, exchanged numbers and as early as the next day, he was texting me. We went back and forth with a few texts and after a while he told me that if I couldn’t pick up the phone and actually talk to him, he didn’t think we’d work. I proudly chunked up the deuces (not b/c I’m an asshole but b/c everytime he was free to talk, I was really busy; aside from that, I truthfully hate talking on the phone. Oh well!). But it also got me to thinking about being single and being able to admit my own faults in relationships that could possibly lead to me being single for a very long time.

My question to you is as follows: Several people (male AND female) always say that one of the reasons that they are single is b/c they can’t find a person worthy of their time. They either run into the crazies, the broke jokers, or people who just aren’t serious about life. But how many of you are willing to admit that you could POSSIBLY be single because of YOU? If you’re single, post your thoughts. Even if you’re not single and are now happily involved, did you ever have an ‘ah-ha’ moment that brought about some realizations? Click HERE to read my “single forever” post at my personal blog and let me know what you think.

Open Discussion: Angelina Jolie to Play Cleopatra

Angelina Jolie has always been one of my favorite actresses. Aside from her gorgeous looks, I love her kick ass-ability that she so effortlessly displays on screen. Recently, she (along with the movie’s director, Scott Rudin) has come under fire for being the chosen actress to play Cleopatra in an upcoming biopic entitled Cleopatra: A Life. On Essence.com, a reader writes:

I don’t care how full Angelina Jolie’s lips are, how many African children she adopts, or how bronzed her skin will become for the film. I firmly believe this role should have gone to a Black woman…What’s next? A biopic on Sojourner Truth played by Betty White?

What do you guys think of this? Does it matter? Or should the director of the film get someone who more closely resembles what historians feel Cleopatra looks like?

Open Discussion: Black Folks & Color Issues

As a quick FYI, I am not late posting this because I missed it; I’m late posting about it because I wanted to take some time to think about how I would post this on the blog.

Twitter, IMO, can be a really GOOD thing for a celebrity or a ridiculously bad one if the label/PR folks aren’t controlling said celebrity’s tweets. Hence the above tweets from Chris Brown. A couple days ago, Sandra Rose posted THIS blog with her opinions about the current state of Breezy’s career. Apparently, Breezy didn’t take too kindly to the blog entry and proceeded to ‘go in’ on Sandra and her skin complexion.

Open Discussion: When Big Lips Don’t Work

“When [a model] comes in with big eyes, big nose, big lips… Things that are common traits in African-Americans — it doesn’t work.”

This short (but long if you don’t have much time) documentary highlights a Black model named Renee Thompson who talks about her struggles breaking into the modeling industry. Additionally, the short film highlights how a lot of agencies/casting directors make decisions when it comes to who they pick for that big break opportunity. Although it does shine a unfavorable light on the modeling industry, it’s still very interesting and a great clip if you have time to view it! I wouln’t go as far as calling it racism but the modeling industry seems to be filled with people whose idea of beauty doesn’t extend beyond a country in Europe. Check out the mini-doc + some photos* after the break!
