monique4 450x600 Does the Black Community Embrace Obesity + MoNique is Evil....

…or at least that’s what we could say she’d think about herself based on her own book title.

Mo’Nique may have been absent from the public’s eye, but she definitely hasn’t been missing any moments at the gym. Mo has dropped some serious poundage, and I have to say that she looks absolutely awesome!

Mo’Nique has always been very open about her weight, oftentimes making it a part of comedy routine. Although you’d think that the desire to work out would be applauded, Mo has said in the past that the plus sized community wasn’t always supportive of her change.

In an article posted several months ago on Curly Nikki, Sherrell Dorsey asks if the Black community makes being overweight sexy.

Did you know that African American women have the highest rates of being overweight or obese compared to ANY OTHER RACE? How ridiculous! I know that real women have curves but not rolls! I’m certainly not pointing the finger because I myself has teetered 15 pounds past my normal weight since I’ve been home. We have to take back our health and no longer accept that our susceptibility to heart disease, asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure and a host of other preventable ailments deserves their own high-fashion collection in the department stores.

Do you guys feel that the Black community is more willing to embrace a few ‘rolls’ and forego the idea of working out to maintain a certain frame?
